Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education
The School offers The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education traditionally known as the 8-4-4 Curriculum. This is a 4-year course that is developed by The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development-KICD and taught in public schools in Kenya.
Subject Selection
All subjects are compulsory to FORM 1 and FORM 2 students. FORM 3 and FORM 4 students will choose a minimum of 8 subjects as follows:
Compulsory subjects are:
⦾ ENGLISH
⦾ KISWAHILI
⦾ MATHEMATICS
For Sciences:
⦾ Biology and Chemistry are compulsory
Students can choose between one of these subjects as well:
⦾ Physics or CRE
⦾ History or Geography
⦾ Computer Studies, Business studies or Agriculture
IGCSE 'O' Level
The school offers this curriculum from year 9 to year 11. O-level IGCSE examination is done at the end of year 11.The school calendar runs from January to November.
The subjects offered are:
First Language English, English Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History, Sociology Business Studies and Information & Communication Technology.
Year 10 and 11: There is a choice of the subjects at year 10; a minimum of 7 is made with at least one (1) subject from each group. This is also guided by the school time table.
Core and Extended Curriculum
The core curriculum is meant for an average student whose best score is a grade C. This is normally preferable for a struggling student who would otherwise score worse in the extended curriculum. The core is offered in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology.
The extended curriculum is meant for the above average student. In this category, grades are available from A* to G.
Transistion
Those who have done well in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (Standard 8) are admitted in year 9 while those in secondary in the 8-4-4 system are placed appropriately after a placement interview.
